In the summer of 2022, my wonderful husband decided that I needed a hobby and something that occupied my time (as I tend to be an over-giver of my time to everyone else). So, he ordered me some candle making supplies. Candles have always been a favorite of mine and I tend to spend entirely too much money on buying candles, but who doesn’t love to have a candle burning in every room of the home? After hours of research, I started making candles for myself. After a few weeks my husband convinced me that it was time to turn this hobby into a business. We started brainstorming and coming up with ideas for a business, hence when Coal Glen Candle Co. & Gourmet Sweets was established.
The name means more to me than most people will realize. First of all, we live in a little area in rural PA that used to be a mining town which is where Coal Glen came from. Secondly, my hard-working grandfather, who passed away in 2010 just 2 months after our oldest son was born, was the proud owner of a coal company. Coal runs through our families’ veins so the minute the name popped up I just knew it had to stick. I feel like this was my grandpa nudging me to do something for myself and to help create some extra income for our family. My husband and I are the proud parents of 3 handsome boys. We have always strived to teach them the importance of hard work and the value of using your time wisely. I hope and pray that through the years of running this small business that they will benefit from the knowledge we will gain so that we can help to set them on a successful path of their own.
